Frequently asked questions

What is The Performance Coach (TPC) Level 1?

The Performance Coach (TPC) Level 1 by Emerge Performance is an ICF-accredited coach training programme designed to help you develop practical coaching skills through learning, practice, feedback and reflection. It is suitable for aspiring coaches, leaders, managers and HR/L&D professionals, and provides a pathway towards the ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential.

Is TPC Level 1 accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF)?

Yes. TPC Level 1 is an ICF Level 1 accredited coach education programme. It includes 60+ hours of coach education, 10 hours of mentor coaching and a performance evaluation, supporting key education requirements on the pathway towards the ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential.

Does completing TPC Level 1 make me an ICF ACC coach?

Not automatically. Completing TPC Level 1 fulfils the coach education, mentor coaching and performance evaluation components of the ICF Level 1 pathway. To earn the Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential, you will also need to meet ICF's coaching experience requirements and complete the required ICF credentialing exam and application process.

Do I need coaching experience before joining TPC Level 1?

No. You do not need previous professional coaching experience to join TPC Level 1. The programme is designed to help you build your coaching skills from a strong foundation, with opportunities to practise, receive feedback and develop your confidence throughout the programme.

Is TPC Level 1 only for people who want to become professional coaches?

No. TPC Level 1 is also designed for leaders, managers and HR/L&D professionals who want to use coaching skills in their work. Some participants join to pursue professional coaching and an ICF credential, while others want to have better conversations, develop people and bring a coaching approach into their organisation.

How much real coaching practice will I get?

Practice is a core part of TPC Level 1. You'll practise coaching through peer coaching, real coaching conversations and five observed coaching sessions with written feedback. You'll also have additional opportunities to practise between sessions through ConveraLab and connect with other coaches through The Coaching Village.

What is mentor coaching, and is it included in TPC Level 1?

Yes. TPC Level 1 includes 10 hours of mentor coaching through group and individual sessions. Mentor coaching gives you the opportunity to review how you coach, receive feedback against the ICF Core Competencies and identify where you can continue developing your skills and confidence.

What happens if I miss a live class?

We understand that work and life don't always go to plan. If you miss a live online Core Module, you can attend the same module with a future cohort at no additional cost. This gives you greater flexibility without missing an important part of your coach training.

What do I receive after completing TPC Level 1?

After successfully completing the programme requirements, you'll receive a TPC Level 1 Certificate of Completion recognising your ICF-accredited coach education, mentor coaching and performance evaluation. You can then continue building the coaching experience required to apply for the ICF ACC credential.

What can I do after TPC Level 1?

After TPC Level 1, you can continue building your coaching experience and work towards your ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential. You can also apply your coaching skills in leadership, HR, L&D or people development roles. If you want to deepen your professional coaching capability further, you can continue to TPC Level 2 and work towards the ICF PCC pathway.

How do I know if TPC Level 1 is right for me?

TPC Level 1 may be right for you if you want to learn coaching through practice, not theory alone. It is designed for people who want structured learning, real coaching experience, feedback and mentor support, whether your goal is to become a professional coach, work towards an ICF credential or use coaching more effectively in your current role.

If you're unsure, you can speak with an Emerge Performance advisor about your goals before deciding whether the programme is the right fit.

Can TPC Level 1 be delivered for organisations and teams?

Yes. Emerge Performance can work with organisations that want to build coaching capability across leaders, managers, HR or L&D teams. TPC Level 1 provides structured, ICF-accredited coach training with practical coaching, feedback and mentor support.

For organisations, speak with our team about cohort options and how TPC Level 1 can support your leadership, people development and organisational goals.
