From greater creativity to increased self-appreciation, there are many advantages that come from being resilient. <\/span>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">This week, we\u2019re taking it one step further to explore how you can develop resilience. Having the strength to bounce back after facing adversity is a skill\nthat you can actively develop. Here are a few ways to do it.<\/p>\n\n<div>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>Find the positive<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">No one\u2019s life is entirely free of problems or setbacks, so making this a goal is unrealistic. At the same time, every bad situation can have a silver\nlining \u2013 even if it\u2019s tiny in comparison to the downside.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">One way to build resilience is to make it a habit to actively find the positive in every situation. For instance, if you are retrenched from your job,\nmaybe this is the nudge you needed to explore the new career path you\u2019ve always secretly wanted to follow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">It\u2019s not about pretending that your retrenchment isn\u2019t painful or difficult; instead, it\u2019s about focusing your energy on finding something positive\nto take away from a negative situation.<\/p>\n\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>Avoid making everything personal<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">When things go wrong, it can be easy to adopt a perspective of victimisation (<em>why me?!<\/em>) or self-blame (<em>I\u2019m just not good enough!<\/em>).\nWith this kind of thinking, you can quickly become bogged down in despair or hopelessness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">If someone breaks up with you, you may view yourself as the victim (<em>why can I never find someone decent?<\/em>) or you may blame yourself for the\nrelationship falling apart (<em>why didn\u2019t I do X differently?<\/em>). The reality is that you are neither a helpless victim nor entirely to blame.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Every relationship involves at least two people, so it\u2019s not all about you: there are always external factors at play and others who are also responsible\nfor what happened. If you learn to accept this, it can help you view setbacks more objectively, acknowledge what went wrong and then move on.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter lazyload\" data-src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/How-Can-I-Develop-Resilience-bodyphoto.jpg\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 599px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 599\/399;\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 18px;\">Build your community<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Difficult situations can seem less daunting if you can discuss them with someone, or even tackle the problem together. On the flip side, feeling alone\nand isolated can magnify the challenges you\u2019re facing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Building strong ties with family, friends and neighbours can boost your resilience by creating a support network that you can rely on when times are tough.\nThis entails spending time together, sharing your highs and lows, and showing those in your life that you care for them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Maintaining these bonds takes work \u2013 you can\u2019t ignore a relationship and then expect someone to have your back when a problem arises \u2013 but the effort is\nwell worth it.<\/p>\n\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>Embrace a healthy lifestyle<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">There are close ties between mental and physical well-being. If you fail to look after one side, there\u2019s a good chance you\u2019ll feel an impact on the other.\nFor example, the link between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apa.org\/news\/press\/releases\/stress\/2013\/sleep.aspx\">lack of sleep and stress<\/a> means that cutting\ndown on sleep to work more on a project that\u2019s stressing you out may actually do more harm than good.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">On the plus side, this relationship means you can strengthen your resilience by taking better care of your physical health. This can take the form of simple\nlifestyle changes \u2013 for example, making an effort to play badminton or football once a week, incorporating more homecooked meals into your diet, or\ngoing to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Making healthier lifestyle choices isn\u2019t always easy \u2013 sometimes late-night TV and char kway teow are hard to resist. One way to ease the transition is\nto set shared healthy living goals with you family or friends so you can work towards them together.<\/p>\n\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>Leading a resilient life<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Developing resilience takes effort. However, many of the ways to boost your resilience \u2013 such as finding the silver lining in situations, building strong\nrelationship and embracing healthy living \u2013 are themselves simply ingredients to leading a happy life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Given the many benefits that come with being resilient, this is one skill that is definitely worth building up throughout your lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n<hr \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In our previous blog post, we highlighted the benefits of resilience.
