For leaders, a crisis can be equally challenging: the\u00a0stakes are high as the cost of failure can be enormous, and the pressure mounts as others look to you to guide the way forward.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Whether you lead a small team or a major organisation, the following four leadership strategies can help you maintain sure footing amid difficult conditions\u00a0and minimize any harm resulting from the crisis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong style=\"font-size: 18px;\">1.\u00a0<\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Make a dynamic plan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">In an ideal world, you would have a comprehensive crisis plan ready to activate as soon as the first signs of trouble emerge. Indeed, thoughtful planning,\u00a0scenario modelling and response testing are key components of proactively building resilience and preparing for a future crisis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Yet no matter how good your planning, chances are you will face at least some unexpected hurdles when a real disaster strikes. So what then? Rather than\u00a0pushing ahead blindly without a strategy, it remains critical in these circumstances to make a plan (or update your existing one) and <a style=\"background-color: white;\" href=\"https:\/\/emergeperformance.net\/zh\/articles\/improve-your-strategic-decision-making-with-the-ooda-loop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">adjust it dynamically<\/a> as the crisis unfolds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">During non-crisis times, you lead your team with a plan featuring clear goals, actions and responsibilities. These are just as important during a crisis\u00a0\u2013 if not more so \u2013 to ensure that everyone has clarity on what needs to be done, why and by whom. Adopting a systematic approach will reduce the likelihood\u00a0of unintentionally duplicating efforts or overlooking something important while keeping your entire team laser focused on reaching the end of the crisis\u00a0with the best outcomes possible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong style=\"font-size: 18px;\">2.\u00a0<\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Communicate early and honestly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The best plan will come to nothing if you fail to communicate it clearly to your team and other relevant stakeholders. You don\u2019t have to look far to find\u00a0examples from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewsonline.com\/transparency-Facebook-password-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">corporate world<\/a> or elsewhere in\u00a0which poor communication made a bad situation worse.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Transparency and timeliness are both essential facets of good communication during a crisis. Transparency means being honest with your team (and other\u00a0stakeholders like clients, suppliers, etc., if applicable) about the situation you\u2019re facing. Sugar-coating things or withholding key details can do\u00a0more harm than good if it means your team fails to appreciate the seriousness of the situation or makes ill-informed decisions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Timeliness is also important. (Of course, this must be done within the\nprivacy and confidentiality constraints of your situation.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The best strategies in non-crisis times come from synthesising diverse views and ideas, and the same is true during a crisis. While a crisis may call for\u00a0rapid decision-making and decisive action, there is still potential to benefit from the wisdom and external perspectives of those around you \u2013 especially\u00a0if you know other leaders who have faced crises of their own.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong style=\"font-size: 18px;\">4.\u00a0<\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Take care of your well-being<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Crises can be a good test of leadership abilities, revealing who has the skills and <a href=\"https:\/\/emergeperformance.net\/zh\/articles\/boost-your-eq-to-become-a-better-leader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">emotional intelligence<\/a> to guide others through adversity.
